AINRC Coalition Triumphs in Puducherry Assembly Elections

The recent Puducherry assembly elections saw the AINRC-led NDA emerge victorious, clinching 18 out of 30 seats despite fierce competition from the INDIA bloc.

With a remarkable voter turnout of 91.23%, this election marked a pivotal moment for political parties in Puducherry. The NDA coalition, primarily composed of the All India NR Congress (AINRC), BJP, and AIADMK, showcased its strength against the INDIA bloc, which includes DMK and Congress.

In this election, the NDA secured:

  • 12 seats by AINRC
  • 4 seats by BJP
  • 1 seat by AIADMK
  • 1 seat by LJK

The INDIA bloc managed to win 6 seats—5 for DMK and 1 for Congress. Additionally, 3 independent candidates found their way into the assembly, while Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won 2 seats and its ally Neyam Makkal Katchi (NMK) took 1.

N Rangasamy, the incumbent chief minister and founder of AINRC, won the Thattanchavady constituency by a margin of 4,441 votes. He also successfully defended his position in Mangalam. However, several prominent candidates faced defeat—R Selvam, R Siva, V P Ramalingame, and M Vaithianathan were among those who lost their bids.

This election was not just about numbers; it reflected deep-rooted sentiments among voters. Neck-and-neck battles characterized many constituencies, highlighting the competitive nature of this political landscape.

The results raise questions about future alliances and strategies as parties regroup after this significant electoral battle. With such high stakes in play, political maneuvering is expected as parties prepare for upcoming challenges.
