Uttam Nagar Violence Following Holi Clash
“We demand that our son should get justice. The police have not conducted any inquiry or asked us about him,” stated the father of Tarun Kumar, a 26-year-old man who was killed during a violent clash in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, on March 4, 2026.
The incident unfolded amid Holi celebrations, reportedly triggered by a dispute over a water balloon thrown by an 11-year-old girl. This seemingly minor altercation escalated quickly, leading to a confrontation between two families from different communities.
According to witnesses, soon after the initial dispute, “15-20 people arrived with sticks and rods and started attacking us,” said Memraj, Tarun’s father. The violence intensified, resulting in Tarun being attacked by a group of 8-10 individuals wielding sticks, rods, and stones.
Tarun succumbed to his injuries the following day, March 5, 2026. His death has since sparked widespread protests in Uttam Nagar, with demonstrators setting vehicles on fire in response to the incident.
In the aftermath, police have arrested at least eight individuals in connection with the clash, with initial reports indicating that four individuals were detained shortly after the incident. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage to identify additional suspects.
The police have increased security in the area to maintain order amid heightened tensions between the Hindu and Muslim communities involved in the clash. Tarun’s father has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, citing negligence on the part of local law enforcement.
BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat remarked, “It is very shameful, when a kid hits someone by mistake and such an incident was carried out,” highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The police have confirmed that a murder case has been filed regarding Tarun’s death, and investigations are ongoing. The community remains on edge as tensions persist, with both sides demanding justice and accountability.
