This new approach means that every month, consumers will receive a bill detailing their usage from the first to the last day of the month. The billing process is designed to be straightforward — bills will be sent directly via SMS and WhatsApp.

Key updates include:

• Prepaid smart meters will function similarly to postpaid ones, providing greater flexibility.
• Consumers can settle old outstanding bills by opting for repayment in ten easy installments until April 30.
• Any complaints regarding billing or service can be filed through the 1912 portal.

Energy Minister A.K. Sharma emphasized that this step was taken with consumer convenience in mind. “This step is aimed at enhancing user experience,” he stated, highlighting that the new system would make billing easier and ensure timely notifications for consumers.

The government is also taking proactive measures to address issues related to smart meters and billing processes by setting up special camps for resolution. Sufficient directives have been issued regarding electricity supply to ensure that consumers are not left in the dark due to administrative delays.

This initiative marks a pivotal shift towards a more user-friendly energy consumption model in Uttar Pradesh, potentially leading to better management of electricity usage and payments among consumers.
