The government is on high alert. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated, “The government continues to monitor the situation to provide all necessary assistance.” The operational level was raised to maximum alert due to ongoing impacts in the region.

This isn’t an isolated incident. A study released last year revealed that rain disasters—like flooding and landslides—have tripled in Brazil from 1991 to 2023. Weather patterns are shifting; thunderstorms are becoming more frequent, leading to devastating consequences.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued yellow warnings for rainfall and strong winds. They recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius, with forecasts predicting temperatures between 36–38 degrees Celsius over the next few days.

The IMD has raised alerts for thunderstorms across different parts of Delhi-NCR, warning residents to prepare for inclement weather. These temperature fluctuations only add to the unpredictability of weather conditions globally.

The increasing frequency of rain-related disasters is a growing concern for many regions. As authorities respond to emergencies today, they must also consider long-term strategies for climate resilience and disaster preparedness.
