India Post GDS 2026 Recruitment Update
India Post has announced significant developments regarding the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment for 2026. The Uttar Pradesh GDS merit list was released on March 6, 2026, and document verification is set to close on March 23, 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 28,636 posts across various postal circles in India.
The merit list has been prepared based on marks obtained in the Class 10 board examination. Candidates must present original documents for verification to confirm their appointment, as missing documents can delay or void selection during this process. Engagement letters for successful candidates are expected to be issued in phases following the completion of document verification.
Pay Scale and Recruitment Details
The pay band for the engaged candidates ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 29,380, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing competitive salaries in the postal sector.
Commemoration of Annapurna Devi
In addition to the recruitment updates, India Post has also honored the legacy of notable Surbahar artist Annapurna Devi by releasing a special cover on March 9, 2026, at the Kolkata GPO. This release coincided with a music festival celebrating her birth centenary, which took place from March 6 to 8, 2026.
Annapurna Devi, who was a prominent figure in Indian classical music and a member of the Maihar Gharana, is remembered for her contributions to the art form. Nityanand Haldipur remarked, “This honor by the India Post has added a new dimension to this initiative,” highlighting the significance of the commemorative cover.
These developments reflect India Post’s ongoing efforts to engage with cultural heritage while also addressing staffing needs within the organization. As the recruitment process unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring a smooth verification process for candidates.
