Guwahati: New Terminal Opens and Cultural Celebrations Begin

New Terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport

The new integrated terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati commenced commercial operations on March 11, 2026. This development is expected to significantly enhance the airport’s passenger handling capacity and improve operational efficiency.

According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the terminal was constructed with local participation and symbolizes Assam’s growing role as a key gateway to the northeastern region and beyond.

Cultural Celebrations in Guwahati

In addition to the airport’s new terminal, the Guwahati Artists Guild has begun its golden jubilee celebrations. Founded in 1976, the guild is marking 50 years of contribution to the visual arts in Assam.

The celebrations kicked off with an art exhibition titled “From the Land of Chitralekha,” which features works by 32 women artists. The exhibition was inaugurated on March 9, 2026, and will remain open to visitors daily from 3 pm to 8.30 pm until March 21, 2026.

The exhibition aims to present a diverse range of visual languages, mediums, and materials, while also highlighting emerging voices alongside established artists.

As part of the celebrations, the guild has scheduled various events, including a theatrical performance by Papri Medhi on March 14, 2026, and a day-long documentary screening on March 15, 2026.

Furthermore, the Rajasthan Royals will face the Chennai Super Kings in their opening match at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on March 30, 2026. This match is one of three home games for the Royals at this venue.

These developments highlight Guwahati’s growing cultural and infrastructural significance in the region. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding future expansions or additional events planned by the Guwahati Artists Guild.
