Bayern Munich Dominates Atalanta
“We have set an example!” declared Bayern Munich’s boss following their impressive 6-1 victory over Atalanta in Bergamo during the UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg.
The match saw Bayern take a commanding lead early on, scoring three goals within the first 25 minutes. Josip Stanisic opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by Michael Olise’s goal in the 22nd minute and Serge Gnabry’s strike just three minutes later.
Atalanta, who had previously won four of their last five matches against German teams, were unable to respond effectively to Bayern’s aggressive play. Nicolas Jackson added a fourth goal for Bayern in the 52nd minute, while Olise netted his second in the 64th minute, further extending the lead.
Jamal Musiala capped off the scoring for Bayern with a sixth goal in the 67th minute. Mario Pasalic managed to score a consolation goal for Atalanta in stoppage time, but it was too little too late.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern’s CEO, acknowledged the challenge posed by Atalanta, stating, “We knew that Atalanta had won four of their last five games against German teams, so we had to take them seriously.”
Despite the victory, Bayern faced some setbacks, with three players leaving the match due to injuries. Dreesen confirmed that “Jonas is in hospital, he has most likely suffered a concussion.” The club expressed their support, saying, “Our thoughts are with you. You put in a great performance today and I’m sure you’ll get through this.”
Bayern Munich’s strong performance in Bergamo continues their history of success in the Champions League, having secured second place in the league phase to advance to the knockout rounds.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the extent of the injuries sustained by Bayern players during the match, but the team will be looking to recover quickly as they prepare for the return leg.
