Instagram Messages Outage Reported
On March 11, 2023, thousands of Instagram users began reporting issues with sending and receiving messages. The outage started around 2 AM in the United States and 7:40 AM IST in India, with users in the US experiencing the highest concentration of problems.
According to Downdetector, over 10,000 complaints were logged regarding access issues to Instagram. Of these, 71 percent were related to problems accessing the app, while 20 percent of users reported server connection issues. Additionally, 5 percent noted difficulties with the Instagram feed or timeline not loading.
As the outage unfolded, users turned to other social media platforms to confirm the issue, sharing their frustrations. One user tweeted, “Are Instagram dms down or… am I cooked?” while another lamented, “My messages, my contacts on Instagram, I can’t use the search tool or even scroll up! The whole thing is just broken right now.”
Reports indicated that around 250 users in India faced similar problems, and approximately 170 complaints were noted from the United Kingdom. Complaints peaked early in the morning, highlighting the widespread nature of the outage.
Despite the significant disruption, Meta has not commented on the outage. Users speculated about the cause, with some even linking it to the ongoing US-Iran war; however, this connection remains unconfirmed.
