Bergamo: Bayern Munich Dominates Atalanta in

Bayern Munich’s Strong Start

“We have set an example!” stated Bayern Munich’s boss following their emphatic 6-1 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League last-16 first leg held in Bergamo. The match saw Bayern take control early, establishing a three-goal lead within the first 25 minutes.

Josip Stanisic opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by Michael Olise’s goal in the 22nd minute. Serge Gnabry then added a third just three minutes later, putting Bayern firmly in the driver’s seat.

Atalanta’s Struggles

Despite their recent success, having won four of their last five games against German teams, Atalanta struggled to find their rhythm against the formidable Bayern side. Nicolas Jackson scored Bayern’s fourth goal in the 52nd minute, further extending their lead.

Olise netted his second goal in the 64th minute, and Jamal Musiala capped off the scoring for Bayern with a sixth goal in the 67th minute. Atalanta managed to score a consolation goal in stoppage time through Mario Pasalic, but it did little to alleviate the disappointment of their heavy defeat.

Injuries and Concerns

In the aftermath of the match, Bayern’s management expressed concern over player injuries. Three Bayern players left the match with injuries, including Jonas Urbig, who was taken to the hospital for examination after a collision. “Jonas is in hospital, he has most likely suffered a concussion,” said Jan-Christian Dreesen, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

Despite the injuries, Dreesen praised his team’s performance, stating, “We knew that Atalanta had won four of their last five games against German teams, so we had to take them seriously.” He also offered words of encouragement to Urbig, saying, “Our thoughts are with you. You put in a great performance today and I’m sure you’ll get through this.”

Looking Ahead

Bayern Munich’s victory secures their place in the Champions League last-16 after finishing second in the league phase. As they prepare for the second leg, the team will aim to build on this momentum while addressing the injury concerns that have emerged from this match.
