Indane Gas Booking Issues Cause Long Queues in Lucknow

Residents in Lucknow are facing significant challenges in securing Indane gas cylinders due to ongoing online booking issues. Long queues have formed outside LPG distributing agencies as customers report waiting for hours to book their cylinders after a technical snag disrupted the online booking system.

The problems stem from a failure in the online gas booking system, which includes the IVRS helpline and other digital platforms. Agency staff acknowledged the situation, stating, “There is a server issue right now. It should be resolved soon.” Despite these assurances, many customers are left frustrated and anxious about running out of gas before their next refill arrives.

In light of these issues, some consumers have resorted to the black market, with one customer, Hasan Faisal, sharing, “I bought a cylinder for Rs 1,050 while the regular rate is around Rs 900. In a crisis, we have to manage somehow because there is no supply.” This price disparity highlights the desperation among residents as they seek alternatives to secure their gas supply.

Additionally, the IVR system has limitations that further complicate the booking process. Customers can face disconnections if they attempt to book a second refill within 25 days of their previous order, adding to the frustration. One customer reported being unable to connect to the Indian Oil Corporation booking helpline despite repeated attempts.

Moreover, a Bengaluru-based customer, Madhu Menon, accused Indane of fraud, claiming that cylinders were booked in his name but not delivered. He stated, “Got this message saying my last cylinder was delivered on 25 Feb and I can’t order again till late March. Except I haven’t ordered a new cylinder since early 2025! Then I discovered clear fraud!” This allegation raises concerns about the integrity of the distribution system.

The Centre has also revised the priority order for domestically produced natural gas due to supply disruptions, indicating that broader geopolitical issues may be affecting availability. The disruption was triggered by a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders linked to these geopolitical tensions.

While LPG companies have reported that their booking systems are functioning normally, the reality on the ground tells a different story. Consumers are encouraged to use alternative digital booking methods such as SMS booking, missed call services, or mobile applications, yet many still face difficulties.

As the situation evolves, residents remain hopeful for a resolution to the technical issues plaguing the booking system. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding when normal operations will resume, leaving many in a state of uncertainty.
