Arshdeep Singh Fined for Conduct Breach

Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15 percent of his match fee following a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand. The incident, which occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings, involved Singh throwing the ball aggressively towards Daryl Mitchell, hitting his pads.

The breach falls under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses inappropriate behavior such as “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.” As a result of this incident, one demerit point has been added to Singh’s disciplinary record.

This was Singh’s first offence in a 24-month period, and he accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft without the need for a formal hearing. The ICC stated, “There was no need for a formal hearing as the Indian bowler accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.”

Despite the incident, India secured a significant victory in the final, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This win marked India’s third T20 World Cup title, further solidifying their status in the sport.

Observers noted that such disciplinary actions are crucial for maintaining the integrity of the game, especially in high-stakes matches like the World Cup final. The ICC continues to emphasize the importance of player conduct on the field.

As the cricketing community reflects on the final, the focus will also be on how players manage their emotions and actions in future matches. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further implications for Singh following this incident.
