In a related context, the Iowa National Guard has been in the news as approximately 575 soldiers returned home on March 7, 2026, after being deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. This operation aimed to reduce ISIS operations in Iraq and Syria.

On March 8, 2026, an additional 60 Iowa National Guard soldiers are expected to return home, marking the end of their deployment in the fight against ISIS in the Middle East. Bret Hileman, a representative of the Iowa National Guard, stated, “That’s the beans, bullets, food, water, any of the commodities that you would need to sustain yourself in an outstation, we supplied. We got it to them.”

Hileman also reflected on the emotional toll of deployment, saying, “You never want to lose someone in combat but that’s part of why we signed up. We said: ‘we will do it’.”

As the soldiers return, they will transition back to their civilian lives after their deployment. Hileman added, “When you have a ceremony like this, you can let your guard down now. You’re out of harms way, you’re back home, and you can move on with life. It’s just kind of closing that chapter.”

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the ongoing investigation into the shooting incident involving Satnam Singh and Sukhbir Singh. The community is awaiting further updates from local authorities.
