Legal Action Against Badshah
An FIR has been registered against popular Indian rapper Badshah for his song ‘Tateeree’, which has drawn significant criticism for its portrayal of schoolgirls. The FIR, filed on March 6, 2026, cites violations under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
The song allegedly depicts minor girls in school uniforms throwing their school bags and running away from studies, a portrayal that has been condemned by various officials. The Haryana Education Minister, Mahipal Dhanda, remarked, “The depiction of school girls in the song and the manner our culture is shown in it is condemnable.”
In response to the backlash, Badshah issued a public apology, stating, “I belong to Haryana, and I had no intention to speak indecently about any woman or children. If anyone is hurt, I seek apology. I expect that you will forgive me by considering me the son of Haryana.”
As part of the investigation, the Haryana Police have initiated the process of issuing a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Badshah to prevent him from leaving the country. Continuous police raids are being conducted to locate and arrest him, with warnings issued against anyone spreading objectionable content related to the song.
Additionally, the Haryana State Commission for Women has summoned Badshah to appear on March 13. Investigators are also looking into whether proper permission was obtained for using a Haryana Roadways bus in the music video.
The song has already been removed from YouTube, and notices have been sent to take it down from other social media platforms. Two FIRs have been triggered by the song’s content, one naming Badshah and another against unidentified persons.
Rahul Jain, a representative of Haryana Roadways, stated, “We did not provide any bus for the shooting of the song.” This raises further questions about the production and permissions related to the music video.
As the situation unfolds, Badshah is expected to appear before the police as per the formal notice issued. Investigators will also question crew members involved in the music video to gather more information.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the legal implications Badshah may face as the investigation progresses.
