Sreeja JS Achieves 57th Rank in Civil Services Exam

Sreeja JS has made headlines by securing the 57th rank in the Civil Services Examination in her first attempt, a notable achievement that positions her on the path to join the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

At just 24 years old, Sreeja’s journey is a testament to her dedication and hard work. She completed her graduation and postgraduation in political science from Madras Christian College, where she honed her skills and knowledge to prepare for the rigorous examination.

Sreeja’s family played a crucial role in her success. Her father, Jayakumar, worked as a daily wage labourer, tirelessly supporting her education, while her mother, Sheeja Kumari, an MA graduate, assisted her studies until Class 9. Sreeja’s brother, JS Jyothish, is currently pursuing BSc Physics at Loyola College, Chennai, reflecting the family’s commitment to education.

Reflecting on her journey, Sreeja stated, “If we dream of reaching the moon, we may at least reach the stars.” She expressed her joy upon receiving her rank, saying, “When I got the 57th rank, it felt like I had reached the moon itself.” Her preparation involved long hours of self-study and mock tests, underscoring her determination to succeed.

During her preparation, Sreeja faced financial challenges, but she received support from her village community. “When I faced financial difficulties during my preparation, people from my village came forward to support me,” she shared, highlighting the importance of community in her journey.

In a related development, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a 1988-batch IFS officer, has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Sandhu has a distinguished diplomatic career spanning 40 years, including his tenure as India’s ambassador to the US from February 2020 to January 2024. His experience in diplomacy may serve as an inspiration for aspiring IFS candidates like Sreeja.
